A brief introduction to APS Automatic Pattern Search APS Automatic Pattern Search is a unique data mining application that discovers
trading systems automatically. The program can search data files of historical prices of traded financial instruments for the purpose of identifying chart formations - known as price patterns - that fulfill user-defined
criteria and risk/reward objectives. Traders can use the price patterns as an indication of short-term market direction and develop short-term trading strategies. APS uses a proprietary algorithm to search for price
patterns based on the theory developed by Michael Harris, the founder of
Tradingpatterns.com. For each pattern found that fulfills the performance criteria specified on a workspace, APS can generate code compatible with various trading platforms for implementing strategies, backtesting them,
and obtaining entry and exit signals as the price history of the financial instrument evolves in time. Click here for a

Below is an example of how easy it is to find profitable price pattern formations with APS in QQQQ historical data.
First, create and save a T/S file that lists the profit target and stop loss levels to be applied to the search. Next open a search workspace and specify the search criteria, including the T/S file created and data file to use After specifying all the required parameters and creating a new search line click Run. In a matter of a few minutes the results are displayed on the screen.
Each line in output refers to a price pattern found by the program to satisfy the user performance criteria. You can generate code for selected patterns. This is an example of EasyLanguage code generation: You can also group selected patterns into a trading system and add it to system tracking The purpose of this example was to provide a general idea of the functionality of APS Automatic Pattern Search. Other functions are available, like the
scan, along with several utilities for data conversion and file maintenance.
